What your weekly price covers
The charter fee covers the yacht, the crew and everything permanently on board, including the water toys. Everything consumed during the week is paid through the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance): fuel, food, drinks and port fees. On motor yachts it runs 25 to 40% of the fee, and on a large motor yacht we budget 30 to 35%. The captain accounts for it and refunds the unspent part.
VAT is charged on the charter fee where the charter starts: 20% in France, 22% in Italy, 13% in Croatia, and a 13% headline rate in Greece. The Bahamas charges a 14% charter tax and the BVI none. The crew tip is discretionary: 5 to 15% in the Mediterranean, 15 to 20% in the Caribbean.
Example: a €125,000 motor yacht week in Greece comes to €178,750 with VAT and a 30% APA, before the tip. Every quote we send states the complete number.

How much does a superyacht charter cost?
A yacht the size of the ones on Below Deck charters for roughly $150,000 to $300,000 a week, and the largest reach $400,000 and beyond. That is the charter fee alone, before APA, VAT and the tip. A fully crewed catamaran with a captain and chef starts around $30,000.
What is the APA?
The Advance Provisioning Allowance is a fund paid with the charter fee. The captain draws on it for fuel, food, drinks and port fees, accounts for every expense and refunds the unspent part. Motor yachts run 25 to 40% of the fee, sailing yachts and catamarans 20 to 25%.
How much VAT do we pay?
VAT is due where the charter starts, on the charter fee only: 20% in France, 22% in Italy, 13% in Croatia and a 13% headline rate in Greece, where licensed yachts qualify for reductions. The Bahamas charges a 14% charter tax. The BVI has no VAT.
How much should we tip the crew?
The tip is discretionary and calculated on the charter fee only. Under MYBA terms in the Mediterranean the guidance is 5 to 15%, around 10% for excellent service. In the Caribbean and the US market, 15 to 20% is the norm.
Can we charter for less than a week?
Yes. Short charters are priced at the weekly rate divided by 6, times the number of nights, often with a 10 to 20% premium. Many large yachts decline anything under a week in July and August, so short charters work best outside peak weeks.
Mediterranean or Caribbean?
In summer, the Mediterranean: Greece and Croatia for island-hopping, the French and Italian Rivieras for glamour. In winter, the fleet moves to the Caribbean: the Bahamas for water toys and beaches, the BVI for easy cruising.
Does using a broker cost us anything?
No. Our fee is paid by the yacht through the standard industry commission, so you pay the same rate whether you book through us or approach the boat yourself.
