10 Good to know

Frequently asked questions.

Does using a charter broker cost me more?

No. Our fee is paid by the yacht through the standard industry commission, so you pay the same advertised rate whether you book through us or approach the boat yourself, and often less, because we know where the real value and the genuine deals are.

What you gain is an independent expert working for you, not the fleet. We compare every yacht on the open market, tell you which boats live up to their brochures, and handle the contract, the crew brief, and the details so your week runs smoothly. There is little reason to book a crewed charter without a broker, and every reason to use a good one.

How much does a crewed yacht charter cost?

A week on a crewed yacht runs from about 15,000 euros for a small catamaran to 500,000 euros and beyond for a large superyacht, with most of our clients landing between 30,000 and 150,000 depending on size, season, and destination.

Catamarans and sailing yachts sit at the friendly end; motor yachts and superyachts climb with length and luxury, and peak weeks in July, August, and the holidays cost more than the shoulder months. Tell us your group size, dates, and the feel you are after, and we will send a shortlist with honest all-in numbers, not just the headline rate.

Where should we charter: the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, or beyond?

It depends on the season and the experience you want. In summer, the Mediterranean is unmatched: Greece and Croatia for island-hopping and history, the French and Italian Rivieras for glamour, and Turkey and the Balearics for value and beauty.

In winter, the trade winds move the fleet to the Caribbean: the British Virgin Islands for easy sailing, the Bahamas for water toys and beaches, and the wider islands for bluewater cruising. We also arrange charters further afield, from the Seychelles to Thailand. Not sure? Tell us the month and the mood, and we will point you to the right corner of the world.

What is included, and what is extra (APA and VAT)?

The base rate covers the yacht and its crew. On top of that, most yachts outside the all-inclusive markets run on an Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA, usually 25 to 35 percent of the rate: a pre-paid fund the captain spends on fuel, food, drinks, and berthing, then reconciles at the end, refunding whatever is left.

VAT applies in most cruising grounds, typically around 20 percent in the Mediterranean and 0 percent in the British Virgin Islands, and a crew gratuity of roughly 10 to 20 percent is customary for a great week. We spell out every one of these lines in your first quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay.

What is it like on a fully crewed yacht?

You do nothing but enjoy it. A professional crew, captain, chef, and often a steward or deckhand, handles the sailing, the cooking, the cleaning, and the logistics, so your only job is to decide where to swim and what to eat.

The chef cooks to your tastes, from casual family lunches to fine dining; the captain plans each day around the weather and what you want to see; the crew sets up the water toys and looks after every detail. No sailing experience is needed and nothing is do-it-yourself. It is the most relaxing luxury holiday there is, which is exactly why people come back year after year.

Our first charter was absolutely perfect

Nadja organized everything perfectly in advance. Our yacht was in top condition. Captain Ivor and hostess Katarina anticipated our every need and Katarina cooks excellently. It was our first charter, but certainly not the last.
