A crewed yacht charter costs from about 20,000 euros a week for a family catamaran hopping between islands, to several hundred thousand for a floating resort with more crew than guests. The yacht, the destination and the month set the price.
Four things make up the bill:
- Charter fee: the yacht, crew and insurance for the week. The listed price.
- APA: a prepaid fund for fuel, food, drinks and dockage. 20 to 25 percent of the fee on a catamaran, 30 to 40 on a motor yacht. Unspent money is returned.
- Charter tax: set by the country you cruise in, from 0 percent in the BVI to 22 percent in Italy.
- Crew tip: at your discretion. By custom 5 to 15 percent in the Mediterranean, 15 to 20 in the Caribbean.
Plus expenses means fee plus APA, the Mediterranean norm. All-inclusive bundles food, drinks and fuel into one price, common in the BVI. Compare the two on the all-in total for the week, not the headline rate.
