The space goes into volume and into people. Median gross tonnage rises from 893 to 1,560, a 75% jump on a 15% jump in length, and median crew rises from 14 to 18.
Not every yacht publishes every field, so the sample size changes from measure to measure. Every figure below carries the number of yachts it was counted on.

Every percentage below is counted on private yachts only, the records publishing 13 guests or fewer. That filter takes river cruisers, tall ships, gulets and expedition vessels out of both bands, so the rows compare boats this reader could actually charter.
A count is what the yacht publishes on its own page. The medians for guests, cabins, crew and tonnage are counted on every record that publishes that field, which is why the number in brackets moves from row to row.

A real spa reaches 1 in 3 at 70 meters, 1 in 6 below
58 of the 184 private yachts at 65 to 75 meters publish a spa, against 65 of 404 below. That is about 1 in 3 above 65 meters and about 1 in 6 below it. Put the other way, 68% of the upper band publish no spa at all.
A spa pool on the sundeck is not a spa. Two thirds of both bands publish a jacuzzi or a hot tub, 266 of 404 below and 120 of 184 above, so the word alone tells you nothing.
Ask for the deck plan and look for a room. A massage or treatment room reaches 40 of 184 above 65 meters, against 32 of 404 below.
CORAL OCEAN is the clearest case in our fleet. At 72.55 meters she publishes a hairdressers salon, a beauty salon, a sauna, a steam room and a treatment room, for 13 guests.
Only 13 of 184 yachts at 70 meters publish a salon
13 of the 184 private yachts at 65 to 75 meters publish a beauty or hair salon, against 8 of 404 below. That is the widest relative gap in the comparison, and it still leaves 93% of the band without one.
Inside the fleet we can book today the split is cleaner. None of the 24 yachts we hold at 55 to 65 meters publishes a salon room. 4 of the 9 at 65 to 75 meters do.
So the salon is a boat you pick, not a length you buy. Ask for the room list before anyone talks about meters.
The gym goes from about half to about 3 in 5
200 of 404 private yachts at 55 to 65 meters publish a gym, and 111 of 184 above 65 meters do. That is 50% against 60%, so a gym is already normal at 60 meters and becomes usual above 65.
What changes is the room, not the equipment. Above 65 meters the gym more often has a space of its own rather than a corner of the sky lounge.
Ask for the crew CV list, not the crew number
Median crew rises from 14 to 18, counted on 306 and 157 yachts. Those 4 extra people are what keeps a spa, a salon and a treatment room open all week rather than on request.
Published rosters under-report specialist training, so read these counts as a floor. Of the 24 rosters we publish at 55 to 65 meters, 4 name a masseuse and 1 names a beautician or hairdresser. Of the 9 at 65 to 75 meters, 3 name a masseuse and 2 name a beautician or hairdresser.
The other titles are thinner. A yoga instructor appears on 1 roster in each band, a personal trainer on 4 below and 1 above, a dive instructor on 3 below and 1 above.
Those counts are too small to settle a trend, so we ask for the crew CV list and who holds treatment qualifications. CORAL OCEAN lists a Beautician, a Spa Stewardess, a Yoga Stewardess and a Pilates Stew. SALUZI lists a Beautician, a Hairdresser and a Masseuse.
Broker insight
70 meters is where a big yacht turns into an amenities yacht, and it is the people who do it, not the rooms. On my 50 meter and up desk that means a beauty therapist, a yoga instructor and a fitness instructor who are yours for the week. A salon with a trained therapist behind it is a different week from an empty one. Book your treatment slots on the first morning, because that therapist's week fills from day 1.

Where the extra 75% of volume goes
The 75% tonnage jump lands in 3 places, and the master is the one you feel first. A master on its own deck reaches 26 of 184 private yachts above 65 meters, against 18 of 404 below. That is the largest structural change we can measure.
Dressing rooms and a private study do not follow. They run at about the same rate in both bands, so ask for the general arrangement.
The garage is the second place. A limousine tender is named on 9 of 184 above 65 meters against 5 of 404 below, so the boat carries the limo and the toys instead of choosing.
Sea comfort is the third, and it comes from displacement rather than kit. Zero speed stabilizers run 34% below and 37% above, so what changes the motion is the extra 667 tons.
A real swimming pool goes from 13% to 33%
A proper swimming pool reaches 60 of 184 private yachts above 65 meters, against 53 of 404 below. That is 33% against 13%, counted on the words swimming pool, infinity pool and lap pool only.
Count a bare pool and the figure doubles, because spa pools and pool decks land in it.
The helipad row needs a question attached. 75 of the 184 above 65 meters mention a helicopter facility, but only 18 name a certified helideck and 5 a touch and go pad. Ask which one before you plan to fly on.
The guest count does not move, and that is the point
77% of yachts at 55 to 65 meters sleep exactly 12, and 72% at 65 to 75 meters do. The ceiling is regulatory. Carry more than 12 passengers and the yacht becomes a passenger ship under a different code. We cover where that works on our more than 12 guests page.
LADY VERA makes the point alone. At 73.52 meters she takes 12 guests in 6 cabins, and publishes a sauna, a beach club, a cinema room and a lift, with no spa and no salon.
Beam and draft close berths, not length
The berthing fence sits between 60 and 65 meters, and above it the gate is beam and draft. Marina Grande on Capri caps at 60 meters. The central quay at Portofino takes yachts up to 64 meters, so a 70 meter anchors off at Baia Cannone. Both sit on our Italy coast.
St Maarten is a beam question, not a length one. Isle de Sol inside the Simpson Bay lagoon berths yachts to about 97 meters.
The Simpson Bay bridge is the real gate. It opens on fixed times and takes roughly 17 meters of beam and 5.2 meters of draft, so a narrow 70 meter gets in and a wide 60 meter does not.
No BVI marina berths a 70 meter except 2 slots in Road Town, and the BVI is an anchorage cruise in any case. St Barts puts the big boats on anchor off Gustavia. In Croatia, Skradin and Mandalina cap at exactly 70 meters while Split takes 90.
Greece is a flag question. Under the Greek e-Charter Permission a non-EU flagged yacht over 35 meters may charter 21 days plus a 7 day extension, 28 calendar days a year. With a full Greek charter licence there is no annual cap.
Pick the ground first, then the length. If Capri and Portofino are the point of the week, a 62 meter with the right fit out is the better boat.
What a 70 meter yacht costs a week against a 60 meter
Our own largest booked week at this size was EUR 845,800, about USD 990,000 at 1.17, for the 72.5 meter QUANTUM OF SOLACE on the Amalfi Coast in June 2026. That is a booked figure, not a median.
The medians are thin. Low season runs EUR 277,500 at 55 to 65 meters against EUR 542,500 above 65, on only 12 and 4 private yachts we can book in euro. High season runs EUR 302,500 against EUR 705,000, on the same 12 and 4.
Total the week before you compare boats. On an EUR 845,800 base, provisioning at 35% to 45% adds EUR 296,000 to EUR 380,600, and a tip at the customary 5% to 15% in the Mediterranean adds EUR 42,300 to EUR 126,900.
That puts the week between about EUR 1,180,000 and EUR 1,350,000 before VAT. VAT is charged by the country you board in and sits on the base. In Greece it is 13%, and Italy and France are quoted per contract.
Berths follow. On a published Mediterranean method of rate per meter times a peak multiplier, a 70 meter sits about EUR 750 a night above a 60 meter in a top Riviera port.
Length does not set the price. ST DAVID is exactly 60 meters and publishes a massage room with an onboard spa therapist, a separate masseuse, a gym, an outdoor cinema and a deck jacuzzi, at EUR 340,000 a week. Our superyacht charter page shows the range.
