Chef Devaney “Dev” Barnard Growing up beside the ocean in Cape Town, South Africa, Chef Devaney “Dev” Barnard was surrounded by a vibrant food culture and a family of passionate, talented home cooks. From an early age, she developed an appreciation for the joy of preparing and sharing food, laying the foundation for what would eventually become her career at sea. Dev's journey into yachting followed a slightly unconventional path. After completing a double major in English Literature and Art History, her adventurous spirit and lifelong love of cooking inspired her to pursue a career as a yacht chef. The opportunity to combine culinary creativity, travel, and life on the water proved a natural fit for her interests. Her cooking reflects a curiosity for different cultures and the flavors she has encountered through travel. Rooted in Mediterranean and traditional European cuisine, Dev enjoys incorporating international influences and combining culinary traditions to create fresh, imaginative dishes. Her appreciation for art and culture complements her creative approach to food, allowing her to explore new ideas and bring a personal touch to her menus. When she's not in the galley, Dev enjoys reading, venturing off the beaten path, and searching for new recipe inspiration. Her curiosity, adventurous nature, and enthusiasm for cooking bring a thoughtful and creative presence to life aboard.
