Crew Information

Captain: Steve DENT

***CAPTAIN - Steve Dent***

A seasoned yachting professional born and raised in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Graduating with a Law degree from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2015, he swiftly transitioned into the yachting industry. His career highlights include roles such as Chief Officer on M/Y Ciao (50m) and 1st Mate on M/Y Attitude (47m). He has also served as Bosun on M/Y Samurai (60m) and Deckhand on S/Y Sarissa (42m). Steve's journey from deckhand to Captain showcases his expertise in yacht operations, teamwork, and safety. His leadership is marked by attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety, making him an invaluable asset in the yachting community.

WHAT IS YOUR YACHTING BACKGROUND? WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO PURSUE A CAREER IN THIS INDUSTRY?
“One of my most exciting experiences was sailing across the Atlantic on the beautiful 55m sailing yacht, Adela. The yacht dated back to 1903, before being restored and relaunched in 1995. I’ve been very privileged to have been a part of various great yachting programs over my career, learning from various mentors along the way. What began as a chance to travel the world and meet inspiring people, quickly turned into a passionate pursuit to excel within a competitive industry and Captain my very own vessel.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND INTERESTS?
“My passions lie in the sport of golf. My fiancé, Kerri and I always stay active and fit by finding the nearest gym to train at or trail to run. I’m an avid stand-up comedy fan and love an intellectually stimulating conversation.

***STEW/ DECK - Kerri Ackhurst***

After high school, her journey transitioned from an interest in cruise liners to yachting at the age of 22. With an enthusiasm for makeup, fitness training, and teaching, she brings versatility to your onboard experience. With a rich background in maritime hospitality, including her most recent roles as Chief Stew on M/Y CIAO (50m) and MY ATTITUDE (47m), Kerri started climbing the yachting ladder onboard vessels like M/Y SAMURAI and M/Y TAIBA as 4th and Junior stew, respectively. Her love for sports shines through her background in field hockey, tennis, squash, and hockey. Whether it's hiking, CrossFit, or beach days, she embraces active living. Eager to explore new destinations like Turkey, Alaska, Costa Rica, and Texas, she values family and treasured moments with loved ones.

WHAT IS YOUR YACHTING BACKGROUND? WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO PURSUE A CAREER IN THIS INDUSTRY?
“The pursuit of my yachting career was serendipitous. I knew nothing about it, but I met my partner, Steve, who was already in the industry, and it intrigued me. Without hesitation, I join him but found out that we would be working on separate boats in different countries. With hard work and dedication, we eventually found each other on the same boat and never looked back.”

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND INTERESTS?
“My passion lies with sport and weight training but my artistic side comes through with painting, drawing and my interest in pottery.”

WHAT IS YOUR YACHTING BACKGROUND? WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO PURSUE A CAREER IN THIS INDUSTRY?
“My formative journey at the age of 16 was in Ibiza, Spain aboard M/Y Gemini. While much of my time was spent on deck, I eagerly embraced opportunities to contribute to interior upkeep and lend a hand in the galley. My father is a Chief Engineer on a private yacht and my older sister has already established herself in the industry, providing exposure to the maritime world”

ECPY - Riviera Yachting Rendez Vous - April 2024
"Crew : a good, informative and warm tour with Steve. Welcoming and confident vibe, congrats.
Yacht : smart, sharp and worth proposing. I like your walkthrough, nice one! I’d add the totally opening division between saloon and cockpit – it’s an excellent way to make the main area feel bigger and will be a hit with guests for sure (weather permitting)."

ECPY Riviera Yachting Rendez Vous - Boat Show - April 2024
"I had the chance to visit Cherry with Captain Steve and meet Kerri, who were both very welcoming. It was a real pleasure to get to know the yacht better through the Captain's eyes, we can feel he is very professional and passionate about his work which is always appreciated. There is an obvious good dynamic between the crew members which is very pleasant and really important during charters in my opinion. Overall we feel a very motivated, dynamic and cheerful crew and I would be delighted to entrust my clients to them.

I was very surprised by Cherry, as we usually consider this type of sporty yachts for day or short charters, but she is really spacious and comfortable which makes her totally suitable for longer charters. The size of her cabins and the exterior spaces are impressive for a yacht her size, the general arrangement is well thought-out. And of course as she is a 2023 built she is in a perfect condition, the interior design is modern yet warm and inviting.

Yachting Professionals' Lunch - 7th May 2024
1.How would you rate the overall ambiance and atmosphere during your lunch experience on the yacht? 10/10 Lunch on MY Cherry was a sublime experience.

2.Can you share your thoughts on the presentation and variety of dishes served during the lunch? The risotto was particulay delicious. The chef achieved the ideal balance between creamy and al dente. The parmesan garnish and a creative finishing touch. I was particularly impressed by the homemade tiramisu, it was not overly sweet and a perfect light texture.

3.Did the menu meet your expectations in terms of freshness, quality, and taste? Please elaborate. The menu exceeded my expectations in terms of freshness, quality and taste. Spinash were were very tasty, the quality of mascarpone was outstanding. Even the bread was fresh and aromatic. Overall, the menu presented a harmonious blend of flavours.

4. How would you describe the level of attentiveness and professionalism of the crew members onboard? The overall service was a warm welcome. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a friendly smile and nice champagne. Table was set immaculately with a colorful flowers, gorgeous glasses and a well design center mat. The quality of service remain consistently high throughout the entire lunch.

5. Were there any specific dietary preferences or restrictions you had? If so, how well were they accommodated during the lunch?
No dietary requirements.

6. Were there any standout moments or aspects of the lunch experience that you particularly enjoyed or that exceeded your expectations? The service provided by Cook was truly exceptional. I appreciated how he took the time to explain each dish in detail with professionalism.

7. Is there any feedback or suggestions you would like to offer to improve the overall dining experience onboard the yacht?

The entire experience was truly perfect. During the warmer days of summer, perhaps a cold appetizer could be considered, but I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my dining experience at Cherry. It is evident that the stewardess is highly qualified, providing impeccable, discreet, and warm service. I would like to extend my gratitude to the entire crew for hosting us.

Brokers Lunch 16/05/2024 - Jen Howarth‐Odendaal
The crew are INCREDIBLE! They come from big boats so the service was outstanding (better than I have had on much larger yachts!) and the food was big boat chef presentation and taste. Book her with confidence. 10 out of 10.
Overall ambiance and atmosphere: Just perfect. Presented like a yacht chef food is expected to look like. 5* presentation. Only comment is about rocket salad being served with dessert which I thought was an odd pairing. I thought the canape was delicious, fresh, tasty; the starter was a good combination with the goats cheese and lentils - a classic pairing; the salmon was cooked perfectly and I loved the swirl. Grilled asparagus, always a win. The orange posset was a first for me. I'm a convert!
The service was incredible, well orchestrated, professional, correct service etiquette was followed. Little touches were noted, like the lime wedges on the table. Gluten free was accommodated (for my dietary preferences) but not to the detriment of the food served. I loved the crew working together when serving the meals with the captain helping. Gave an aura of completeness and VIP service. The 'big boat' experience is evident in the crew.
Suggestions for improvement: Nothing! I can't wait to book the boat!

Thank you and the lovely crew. Everything was relaxed and impeccable. One can really feel the larger yacht service and quality, onboard a smaller yacht. I am sure you will be very successful!.
