Captain: Jehanne Bavay

Captain Jay Jay
Jehanne, known by her friends as Jay Jay, was born in Belgium and raised in France. After graduating with a B.A. in Interior Design in Brussels, she moved to Ireland and has lived all around the world since then, following her dream of traveling. Her passion for sailing began with her first taste of the sea while working on fishing vessels in Australia. This passion, along with the simplicity of an ocean-based lifestyle, led her to work aboard larger charter catamarans in 2017. Starting as a mate and chef, she eventually became a captain after completing the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore training. Since then, she has sailed around the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. An avid surfer and marine adventurer, Jay Jay is the perfect travel companion and guide aboard any vessel. She recently completed a 200-hour yoga instructor course and will ensure everyone feels good aboard the vessel. Jay Jay finds deep satisfaction in continually transforming her skill set and abilities, which complement her life on the waves and enhance the comfort and safety of her guests.

I'm an island girl, born in Koh Phangan and raised on Réunion Island, with a blend of French and Thai heritage. I’m cheerful, dynamic, energetic, and always ready with a smile. A perfectionist at heart, I’m curious, eager to learn, and thrive on challenges. With a deep love for adventure, travel, the sea, and cooking, I've found my passion in yachting and water sports. Through my personal and professional experiences, I've turned my love for the sea and culinary arts into my career.

Fresh fruit platter served daily.


Scramble egg with bacon, mini croissant, Greek yogurt, granola, maple syrup. Banana milk shake.


Tortilla omelette filled with bacon, onion, potato, cheddar & mozzarella cheese served with bread, butter, jam & honey.

Tuna poke bowl with carrot, cabbage, radish, edamame, avocado, mango topped with fresh herbs & spicy ginger sauce.


Baby spinach salad topped with grilled shrimp in garlic & parsley butter sauce with white onion, cherry tomato, cucumber, radish, strawberry & roasted pecan nut on top.


Wahoo tacos with red & white cabbage, tomato, cucumber, yellow bell pepper & fresh cilantro. - Coleslaw on the side.


Crab cake with white cabbage salad with pink lady apple, roasted sesame seed in French vinaigrette sauce with homemade seed crackers.


Porc tenderloin in red Thai curry with egg plant, red onion, red bell pepper, yellow zucchini, habanero chili & basil leave on top with white rice.


Chicken (mayonnaise & cajun spice) roll wrap with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, yellow bell pepper with spinach, strawberry, roasted pecan nut.

Champignon risotto with sour cream, butter, parmigiana cheese, white onion & baby spinach. - Fried scallop in butter sauce with a drizzle of parsley sauce on top. 


Lettuce salad with cherry tomato, roasted pecan nut, mozzarella cheese ball & fresh herbs with Feta Greek yogurt sauce on top to start, followed with baked chicken leg in BBQ sauce with thyme, rosemary and garlic with Brussel sprout, ruby potato, red onion and yellow zucchini.


Chinese beaten cucumber salad to start, followed with a Tuna steak in black & white sesame crusted, with sobba noodle in soy sauce, blend of sesame seeds & oil and green onion on top. - Blanched bok choy on the side.


Tomato salad with burrata & basil leave to start, followed by Italian carbonara with linguini, fried guanciale, garlic, habanero, parmigiana cheese & fresh parsley on top. 


Seared steak in « sous-vide » with rosemary, thyme, garlic with a ring of parsley butter on top with baked green & white asparagus in olive oil. Mashed of gold & sweet potatoes with butter and sour cream.

Chocolate lava cake with sugar icing & vanilla ice cream on the side.

JJ and Coral - "wow" ... what more can I say? You both made our fabulous sailing trip something to remember for a lifetime. I am having a hard time adjusting to sub freezing temperatures as I dream of our week with you guys.
My refrigerator looks so terrible when i try to compare it with Coral's! And relying on JJ for just about everything is something I miss as well.

The trip was more than I ever imagined. "Pura Vida" was a beautiful catamaran with ample space and truly comfortable beds. Our Captain JJ was knowledgeable, relaxed and so much fun! Coral our chef was extraordinary!
Each meal was better than the one before. I can't recommend this trip enough - JUST GO!

Captain JJ's navigation skills were top-notch, and Chef Coral's culinary creations were a highlight of the trip. The crew's hospitality and the breathtaking views made it a truly unforgettable sailing adventure. If you're looking to relax and unwind, this is the trip for you. The crew is so attentive and accommodating, not to mention super friendly and fun to be around! Highly recommend!

Our trip in BVI was the trip of a lifetime! Sailing aboard the beautiful Pura Vida, we were able to visit the most beautiful parts of BVI. Captain JayJay knew exactly where to take us for dining, sight seeing, snorkeling and shopping!
Our trip was tailored to meet our every desire!
Chef Nicole provided us with the most delicious meals. I really have no words for how amazing our dining experience was. Each meal was delicious and beautiful. Nicole and JayJay were attentive to our every need and continually made sure we were relaxed comfortable. It is a pleasure to be in their company. We absolutely loved visiting and chatting with them during our trip. There isn't a thing we would change about our trip. Now, we're just dreaming about our next trip!

My Husband and our two Adult sons just spent the most glorious week on board Serenity!!!!
Our Captain Jay Jay took us to so many wonderful destinations... private snorkeling, beautiful Beach Clubs and some amazing remote restaurants and The Baths (a must see). Kylie was our Chef. She always had delicious snacks and drinks always at the ready.
And our meals were beyond! Beautifully prepared and so delicious! Our son is a Vegetarian and his meals were just as wonderful as ours! These two women were so much fun to be with..... felt like part of the Family!!! It was a Bubbly Jubbly Grand Time!!!!

I have sailed most of my life and can assure you that Captain JJ and First Mate Nicole are the most capable, easy going, attentive, and qualified crew I have ever had the pleasure of be exposed to. They simply complement each other as a team. This crew also has an in-depth knowledge of the entire area and know where to go to ensure you experience all the best of the Virgin Islands.

A friend who invited me to a chartered sail a few years ago in the BVI. After that experience, I knew I wanted my sons to return with me, but of course that was delayed after Irma's destruction and then COVID. I reserved our charter summer of 2022 just after the restrictions were finally lifted for travel to the BVI. The entire experience was so much fun in this beautiful paradise, and our skipper, JJ, was awesome. She was knowledgeable and experienced, calm and an absolute pleasure to have along with the three of us. We ended up with a larger catamaran than we reserved, which was a great surprise, and our weather was nearly perfect throughout the week. The staff at the base were kind and helpful, and the check in, transfer, and provisioning processes were simple and quick.

Our skipper, JJ (Jehanne), was truly awesome. Her adventurous spirit and knowledge of the area was a perfect match for us.
