Crew Information
Captain: Julian
Captain Julian
Julian is a native Texan, growing up in the city of Houston, which is 50 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. His love for the ocean started at a young age with father and son fishing trips to the Texas Gulf Coast. As time passed, he became an experienced outdoors-man and fostered the love for it with camping, fishing, hunting and obtaining his SSI diving certificate. Some of the most memorable moments where his experiences captaining his family’s boat at a young age to various offshore destinations and coming home with ice chests full of catch.
Julian attended and graduated private school and continued his education at the University of Houston to obtain his BBA in Business Management. He has worked in the energy business for 25 years. Eleven of those years were spent running his own consulting company, advising both domestic and international clients in their day to day operations.
Julian and Chef/1st Mate, Shawn, made the decision to live out their dreams, and became captain and crew of Cashmere. The desire to share their knowledge of the marine and island life brought them to the tranquil waters of the Caribbean and to share the grace and beauty of the Caribbean Sea and her islands have to offer, with their guests.
Chef Shawn
Shawn was born and raised in a small town in Texas. She spent her past time with her family either on the water or riding horses. Her land-life love was her horses, where her water-life love was fishing. Her love for both kept her actively busy with her family. In addition to her active marine life, her family owned and operated a hunting lodge where hunters would stay for bird hunts. Shawn and her family provided hand crafted cuisines for the hunters, sometimes upward to 25 quests. It was here where she began to develop a love for cooking and experimenting with different foods.
After graduating from college, her love for the water continued. Shawn was a teacher at the beginning of her career where she filled the summers with boat activities, including skiing, knee boarding and fishing. Countless weekends were spent on the water. While traveling, her love for tranquil waters, beautiful islands, and diverse cultures grew stronger. She dreamt one day to make a lifestyle change and live “near” the water. That time drew nearer as her and Julian started their sailing lessons, igniting a deeper adventure on the water…….SAILING!
Then, Cashmere was purchased. Becoming the full-time crew of their own vessel is a dream come true---sharing this dream with guests by exploring the waters and shores of the Virgin Islands. Shawn’s servant heart is thrilled to share this magnificent adventure on board their beautiful vessel, Cashmere. Her desire is not only to serve you, but to share the awestruck views and magical experiences the islands so graciously offer. Happy Sailing!

Reviews
We want to extend a special thanks to Lauren of Second Wind Travel & Yacht Charters for her professionalism and expertise in planning this type of vacation.
The Captain (James) and the Chef (Julia) were what made this trip aboard Sea Dragon, absolutely incredible! They bent over backwards to give us the absolute best care and service, and went out of their way daily to consider our comfort and enjoyment. It was like having to executive assistants at our beck and call for 7 days straight!
We expected to eat well on the trip, but we had no idea of the level of cooking that we would actually receive. It was as though Julia had come directly from Cordon Bleu with her amazing recipes and out of the box menu! She must have spent hours preparing a majority of the meals, and yet we were completely unaware of her effort because we had the joy of just showing up when it was time to eat. The spreads were incredible, and there was always plenty!
James was a delight! Not only an excellent Captain who knew how to navigate and control his boat, but he considered our whims and wishes at every opportunity and kept the itinerary fresh every day. He gave us options of what we could do next and allowed us to veto or confirm his ideas, and always with an incredibly pleasant attitude and a smile. One of our favorite nights of the whole trip was when we dragged them both into our evening of board games and had an absolutely incredible night of hilarious laughter! Both wonderful friends that we would love to spend more time with in the future.
Thank you to Derek at iYacht Club for making this trip everything that we hoped it would be!
Captain James was extremely professional and made us feel very safe. Everyday he gave us an itinerary with options and he was very accommodating with what we wanted to do.
Chef Julia was very talented and made the most incredible meals that looked as good as they tasted. With two gluten allergies, she was able to accommodate without any issues. She adhered to our preferences and was so creative.
The crew went above and beyond by decorating for NYE and made us such a yummy meal (surf and turf)! We had the best time getting to know James and Julia whether we were playing games together, sailing, or just chatting. We’ve only been home for a day and we are planning our return to the BVI.
James proposed a modified itinerary to keep us safe considering the Atlantic depression causing big waves for Thursday and Friday.
James organised an amazing route balancing island visits with nights at sea, while incorporating all our requests without fuss. His demeanour was both professional and friendly. We were able to enjoy our ourselves and have fun within a safe framework. For those who wished to learn - new skills were taught well - our group left with experts in knot tying and anchor deployment. I was not one of them.
Julia’s food was just incredible. I have told countless people about the trip and her food especially. In fact just last night I mentioned it to someone, even though our trip was last year. She did an excellent job in consistently providing a variety of high quality meals. I was very impressed with her professionalism in diligently getting up early to ensure fresh ingredients were there for us when we woke up. She took pride in what she served and that made for a five star experience as a guest.
In summary I could not recommend James and Julia more and hope to sail and dine with them again one day.
Whilst capitalising on the ubiquitous coastal locations, we also ventured on land hiking up mountains with staggering views. All credit for visiting such locations goes to James, our skipper. James was equally knowledgeable of each area we visited, whether that be on or off the water. And so made light work of route planning and taking on requests for types of places to visit. You could really sense his ambition to curate the perfect trip for everyone aboard...and I think it’s fair to say he did that!
The boat itself was incredible and always filled with all the essentials. We anchored up in some great locations and James showed us many hidden hotspots only known to the locals. Couldn't have asked for a better trip and we will be returning next year.
