Sail & Work Experience:
Julien has extensive work experience on yachts, having worked in many different roles in many different locations. Surrounded by other experienced crew members and captains over the years, Julien has been taught the good manner in which to run a boat - by creating and following maintenance schedules and by logging any intervention or changes on the deck department in order to keep guests safe. He has also developed an eye for detail in keeping boats in pristine condition (once maintaining a boat that was 87 years old!). He also has experience racing yachts, and following this became comfortable with all splicing and rigging jobs when the preparing the boat and upgrading all the running rigging. Julien’s expertise in the running of yachts assures guests always have an incredible charter. His passion for sailing means that he thoroughly enjoys the time on board as much as the guests do.

Job Description:

Sail & Work Experience:

Alike Julien, Stuart has a competitive side and has experience on racing yachts. He is proud to have finished in second place in a challenge from Cape Town to Mossel, and to have won South Africa’s Governor’s Cup race in 2013! Stuart’s sea crossings have varied in difficulty. On one yacht, he recounts, “it was a smooth crossing but did entail an interesting repair in Lanzarote done from in the water where the rudder-stock and blade needed to be removed”. On another boat, he recalls having “no autopilot, no diesel for emergencies, no ports for charging batteries, and with serious waves, this was a very challenging voyage”. It is clear that Stuart has a calm temperament, is quick thinking, and highly trained – making him an extremely reliable First Mate.
